Business Advisory Council

Purpose

The Business Advisory Council supports the dean and the Lam Family College of Business in fundraising, business and corporate engagement opportunities, and general promotion in support of the mission of the college.

Specifically, the council enables effective partnerships between the business community and the college in integrating business education with real-world innovations, developing a pipeline for student careers and faculty research, and developing sources of investment in support of the goals of the college.

Composition

The advisory council shall be comprised of individuals appointed by the dean of the Lam Family College of Business. Every effort will be made to ensure that membership of the council reflects the diversity of the college, the campus, the region, and the State of California.

Generally, members are selected based on their status and experience as senior-level executives, business leaders/owners, entrepreneurs or community leaders. Each member is expected to contribute time, talent, and financial support. The Council will have alumni representation, although no set proportion of alumni is required.

Kimberly Brandon graduated from San Francisco State University, class of 1984. She is currently the senior vice president/wealth adviser at Morgan Stanley. She has served on the San Francisco Port Commission since 1997.

Loretta Doon, now retired, was the Chief Executive Officer for the California Society of CPAs and CalCPA Education Foundation. She has been recognized by Accounting Today as one of the most influential persons in accounting and has been named by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the most influential women in business. She holds a master’s degree in education from San Francisco State University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Hawaii. She has an active CPA license in the state of California.

As the former President & CEO of Sonesta Hotels, he led the remarkable expansion of the company from a modest operation into the eighth-largest hotel company in the U.S., with more than 1,200 locations, 10,000 employees, and over $1.3 billion in annual revenue. His leadership is grounded in operational efficiency, innovation, and strategic growth.

Carlos blends his deep technical expertise with strong business acumen. He has successfully managed large-scale acquisitions, implemented AI-driven systems, and overseen significant assets across various industries.

Dev currently serves as a Commissioner on the Santa Clara County Juvenile Justice Commission (JJC) as well as a CEO advisor to several startups. His business experience includes stints at McKinsey & Company as well as being a founding executive at startups such as i2 Technologies (Supply Chain software - IPO at Nasdaq and acquired), Agiliance (security startup - acquired) and CipherCloud (security startup - acquired). He helped build these exciting companies from their early days to successful businesses, leading their strategy, customer success and partnership organizations. He also served leadership roles at large organizations including as a VP at Sun Microsystems and as GM at Microsoft. He holds a B.Tech from IIT-Kanpur, an MS from Texas A&M University and an MBA from Wharton School of Business.

Mohan Gyani is an accomplished senior-level executive and board member.  He is the former President and CEO of AT&T Wireless, was Head of Strategy and Corporate Development at Vodafone, and Chief Financial Officer at AirTouch Communications. Mohan is a board member at numerous global public and private companies, including AirLinq, Jasper Technologies, Digital turbine, Synchronoss, Safeway, and Union Bank.

Additionally, Yogesh  provides funding support to young entrepreneurs in Surat, India.

Matt Hurley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from SF State and an MBA from Golden Gate University. A senior Silicon Valley business leader with broad-based Fortune 500 expertise, including SaaS, he is recognized for his proven track record in worldwide strategy tied to revenue generation. With multi-faceted experience that spans more than 20 years, Matt has held leadership roles in sales, partners, marketing, services, sales operations, and finance at companies such as Sun Microsystems, Bell Canada and Juniper Networks.  In 2018, Matt left big tech and joined OneLogin, a $30 million ARR Single Sign-on Identity Access firm.  While at OneLogin, Matt built a global network of channel partners, opened up the Europe and Asia markets for the company, and, in 2020, became the company's Chief Revenue Officer.  After several positive years, OneLogin was successfully acquired in 2022.  Today, Matt consults with several technology companies mainly in the go-to-market functions.

Mary Huss served as president and publisher of the San Francisco Business Times since 1991. She retired in May 2024. Huss worked on business journals in Philadelphia and St. Louis, as well as on the St. Louis Post Dispatch and the Riverfront Times, a St. Louis alternative weekly that she helped launch shortly after earning her degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1976. She is credited with turning around the San Francisco Business Times. Under her leadership, the paper has launched many annual awards programs, including the "100 Most Influential Women in Business," the "Top 100 Women-Owned Businesses," the "Corporate Philanthropy Awards" and the "Fastest-Growing Private Companies." In addition to her duties at the helm of the San Francisco Business Times, Huss donates to numerous causes and charities, volunteers her time and serves on SF State's College of Business Advisory Board.

DDC Bruce

Bruce Kern has over 40 years’ experience in community planning and economic development serving in executive positions in state and local government.

He served as research and planning director for Alameda County’s Social Services Agency and Regional Criminal Justice Planning Board, after which he held several senior leadership positions within the County.

In 1990 Mr. Kern became the founding Director of the East Bay’s Economic Development Alliance representing 150+ member organizations. Comprised of community leaders, the organization continues to this day to serve as the regional voice and networking resource for strengthening the East Bay’s economy. After retiring in 2010, Mr. Kern has continued to give back to the community and to his profession. He currently serves on the Board of the California Association for Local Economic Development and is the past Chairman of the California Academy for Economic Development (CAED) providing professional development resources and access to valuable technical assistance for community development leaders.

He also serves as Vice Chairman of The Corporation for Manufacturing Excellence (MANEX) serving manufacturers in the Greater Bay Area and is a member of the East Bay Regional Parks Foundation Board of Directors.

In 1998, Mr. Kern was the recipient of the “Golden Bear Award” for his outstanding contributions to the economic development profession in California, and for five years was a lecturer of community planning at the University of California – Berkeley

He holds a B.A. (Finance) and completed graduate studies in Economics from San Francisco State University.

Gilman Louie is a partner of Alsop Louie Partners, a venture capital fund focused on helping entrepreneurs start companies. He is also the founder and first CEO of In-Q-Tel, a private nonprofit venture capital firm that invests in private companies on behalf of a wide range of United States intelligence agencies. He serves as a member of the board of directors of the Markle Foundation and is chairman of the board of the Federation of American Scientists. Gilman is a graduate of San Francisco State and an adviser to the US intelligence community.

Guymond K. Louie (B.S., ’80)

Guymond K. Louie’s career is highlighted by a series of advanced positions of increased responsibility for maintaining a consistent track record of success.  His experience in operations management ranges from small start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. Guymond recently served as Vice President of Operations at Integral Reality Labs, Inc., where he was responsible for growing their 3D print operations to support business growth goals. He has worked in operations for software entertainment companies, including Hasbro Interactive, MicroProse, and Spectrum HoloByte, where he was responsible for supply chain sourcing and production.  Earlier in his career, Guymond worked in commercial banking at Wells Fargo and Crocker Bank as a business banking lender.

Guymond holds an M.B.A. in Finance (1985) and an M.S. in Manufacturing Management (1994) from Golden Gate University, as well as a B.S. in Banking and Finance (1980) from San Francisco State University.

Nicole M. Mossman is the Chief Marketing Officer at AssetMark, a role she has held since April 2024. Prior to joining AssetMark, Nicole had a distinguished career at BlackRock, where she served as Managing Director from 2008 until February 2024. During her 16-year tenure at BlackRock, she held various leadership positions, including the creation and leadership of the Global Product Marketing team for iShares and the Global Communications team for Fundamental Equities. She also oversaw the Budapest-based product strategy team for all active strategies and served as the Head of the San Francisco office, where she played a key role in driving the office’s culture, operations, and community engagement.

Nicole’s career in financial services began at Dakin Partners, a small institutional consulting firm, where she spent three years before transitioning to Callan Associates. At Callan, she spent eight years refining her expertise in institutional consulting before joining BlackRock.

With over 25 years of experience, Nicole is passionate about empowering women in the financial sector and served as a co-lead of BlackRock’s Women’s Initiative on the West Coast for four years. She continues to champion this cause through her involvement in various organizations. She is currently a member of the Board of the San Francisco 49ers Foundation, which educates kids throughout the Bay Area with STEAM initiatives, and serves on the Advisory Board of Love Never Fails, which supports victims of human trafficking.

Nicole holds an MBA and a BS in Marketing from San Francisco State University and maintains her FINRA Series 7 and 24 licenses.

David Odato retired as the senior vice president, human resources, at UCSF Health and associate vice chancellor, human resources, for UCSF in June 2019. David holds an MBA from San Francisco State University in addition to a bachelor's degree from Middlebury College. David worked at UCSF for more than 29 years, providing leadership for key UCSF-wide initiatives and multi-campus efforts for the University of California. He also has developed strategies and implemented programs to improve the experience for UC staff.

In his last role, he was responsible for human resources at UCSF, and led strategic initiatives to ensure UCSF attracts, develops and retains diverse, top-tier talent. Odato also oversaw human resources' strategic and operational activities as well as occupational health and learning and organizational development.

During his career, which started at Mount Zion in 1985, David has many accomplishments to celebrate. He has been instrumental in UCSF’s years-long transition journey to UC Path, the UC wide common system to support HR, payroll and benefits activities. His leadership was invaluable during times of significant change at UCSF and UCSF Health, particularly the merger and demerger with Stanford, and most recently their growth from a hospital to a health system with affiliations across the Bay Area. He has been very involved at the UC system level, including significant work on pension reform. 

DDC Okorie

Okorie L. Ramsey serves as the Vice President, Finance Compliance Officer & SOX of Kaiser Permanente. In this role, Mr. Ramsey is developing and implementing an accountable and comprehensive finance compliance program to support Kaiser Permanente's Finance Organization in adherence with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, internal policies and standards to enhance the Kaiser Permanente Finance organization compliance environment. Mr. Ramsey serves on several non-profit boards including the Board of Trustees for the California Society of Certified Public Accountants Education Foundation, the Accounting Career Awareness Program, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Council and LIFE Courses, Inc.

Joel R. Redmon is the senior pastor at Church of the Valley.  He retired from his previous position as managing director for MetLife–Real Estate Investments in the San Francisco regional office. He earned his bachelor's degree with a concentration in accounting from San Francisco State.

Mohamed currently works in EY-Parthenon's Transaction Strategy and Execution practice supporting Financial Services clients. He has worked in Consulting and Financial Services for more than 8 years. His previous experience includes Consulting at Bain and Company, interning in TSE for Ernst and Young - Parthenon, Strategic Planning for BNP Paribas / Bank of the West and Analytics at MUFG Union Bank. When he is not working, Mohamed enjoys exercising and spending time with his wife and son.

He holds an MBA from UC Berkeley and a Bachelors in Finance from San Francisco State University.

DDC Pramukti

Pramukti Surjaudaja (B.S., '85)

Pramukti Surjaudaja has been in banking for more than thirty years. He has held positions as Managing Director and President Director before stepping into his current role as President Commissioner of Bank OCBC NISP in Indonesia. His prime responsibility is as the chairman of the bank’s supervisory board. Furthermore, he has held a position as non-executive Director in OCBC BANK Singapore since 2005. Other than in banking, he sits as a Commissioner in Biotest Medical Laboratory. In honor of his career and work, he was awarded top management awards such as “Best CEO” and “Most Prominent Banker” awards in Indonesia.

Mr. Surjaudaja also serves on the boards of several nonprofit and education organizations including ASEAN Council member in INSEAD, Board of Trustee member in Karya Salemba Empat educational foundation, and Deputy Chairman of Supervisory Board for Indonesian Overseas Alumni.

Mr. Surjaudaja received his BS degree in Banking and Finance from San Francisco State University in 1985. Following SF State, he pursued higher education receiving a MBA from Golden Gate University in 1986.

He currently lives with his family in Jakarta, Indonesia.

DDC Clarice

Clarice Turner (B.A. ’85; MBA, ’90)

Clarice Turner, current CEO of the California Almond Board, was named among the nation’s Top 50 Diverse Board Candidates by Equilar (a business intelligence firm) and the Nasdaq Center for Board Excellence. Read more about this honor and about Clarice Turner.

Clarice Turner also serves as a board member at Delicato Family Wines and at Blaze Pizza.

Previously, Turner was president at Joseph Phelps Vineyards.  Prior to joining Joseph Phelps Vineyards, Turner was chief executive officer of Boudin Bakeries, and has held executive leadership positions with Starbucks Coffee Company, YUM! Brands and PepsiCo.  She has developed a well-versed business perspective from her vast management experience in the consumer products, foodservice and hospitality, and the wine and spirits sectors.  A gifted strategic thinker, she has a keen ability to anticipate, recognize and develop hidden opportunities, create innovative and successful solutions while taking calculated risk to drive positive business outcomes.

Turner earned her MBA concentrating in International Business and a BA in Geology from San Francisco State University. She also attended Fudan University in China. Turner is distinctively poised to understand the role different cultures play in shaping inclusivity and diverse thought.  As a result, she has made it an imperative to be a member or lead Diversity and Inclusion efforts at every company she has worked for.  Her committees have led increased supplier diversity, development of performance goal metrics for all organizational levels and have commissioned extensive cross-cultural training programs.

Tim Yamauchi

Active in the community, Yamauchi serves on the boards of the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce and on the California Asian Chamber of Commerce. He is a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum, Mountain Valley Chapter, and serves on the Wells Fargo Community Board of Advisors. In 2009 he was selected as CFO of the Year by the Sacramento Business Journal. Yamauchi holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard University and is a certified public accountant (inactive status) with previous experience at a Big Four accounting firm (formerly Coopers and Lybrand), now PricewaterhouseCoopers.
