Bloomberg Terminals Acquired to Enhance Student Learning Experience at San Francisco State University
The Lam Family College of Business (LFCoB) at San Francisco State University announces the acquisition of Bloomberg Terminals, powerful tools that provide students with access to professional-grade financial data, news, and analytics. As of Fall 2024, students are now able to utilize these terminals to simulate real-world financial activities, enhancing their educational experience and better preparing them for careers in finance and related fields.
The Bloomberg Terminals are cutting-edge servers and databases that offer real-time financial information, enabling students to dive deep into global market data, perform advanced research, and engage in comprehensive financial analysis.
This advanced technology is part of the LFCoB's ongoing commitment to provide students with practical, hands-on learning opportunities that bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world application.
Funded by the Lam-Larsen Fund for Global Innovation, twelve terminals have been licensed by the college at an estimated cost of $80,000 annually. This investment underscores the college's dedication to equipping its students with the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive global economy and is made possible by the generosity of our donors, alum Chris Larsen (B.S., '84), his wife Lena Lam, and the Rippleworks Foundation.

The Bloomberg Terminals are located in the Bloomberg Financial Lab in the Business Building, Room 214 (BUS 214), on the SF State campus at 1600 Holloway Ave. in San Francisco and will be accessible to all SF State students, with a particular focus on those enrolled in the Lam Family College of Business. Students in disciplines such as accounting, finance, and economics, where the use of financial data is integral to coursework, will find the terminals especially beneficial. The terminals will be incorporated into class activities, allowing students to gain hands-on experience that mirrors the tasks they would perform as finance professionals in the workforce.
"This is a major step forward in our efforts to provide students with industry-relevant tools and resources," said Eugene Sivadas, Ph.D., dean of the Lam Family College of Business.
The Director of the Lam-Larsen Fintech Initiative and Finance Professor Todd Feldman, Ph.D., commented that "The Bloomberg Terminals will not only enhance our students' learning experiences but also give them a competitive edge as they enter the job market."
