Assistant Professor Ebru Ipek Co-Authored Article on Hiring Refugees Published in Yahoo News-Canada and Other News Outlets
Assistant Professor of Management Ebru Ipek co-wrote an article about hiring refugees. The co-authors are Stacey Fitzsimmons, Associate Professor of International Business, University of Victoria, and Robin Pesch, Senior Lecturer, International Management, Newcastle University.
Based on the experiences of refugees in many countries, the article describes three kinds of employers when it comes to hiring refugees: the humanitarian, the lecturer, and the pragmatic manager. Only the latter manager's approach was preferred, while humanitarian and lecturer methods were problematic to refugees.
Further, Ipek and the co-authors recommend strategies for hiring refugees that help employees to adjust to a new workplace with the necessary skills and without sacrificing their autonomy.
Their article was published in over 45 media outlets.
