Position Description: 

As a member of the Network Operations Team, the Senior Equipment Control Analyst will work alongside the Manager – Equipment Control in his / her role of directing the flow of container equipment throughout the Matson network and maintaining equipment inventories at required levels at all of Matson’s locations.  The Senior Equipment Control Analyst will have primary responsibility for capturing all relevant data, updating equipment tracking models, and analyzing information to help identify potential problem areas throughout the network.  They will also participate in other Equipment Operations initiatives and corporate projects.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Provide analytical and functional support in the preparation and distribution of the System Wide Inventory Forecast (SWIF) model that facilitate the movement of Matson container equipment throughout the Matson network:

    • Gather operational data and populate models as necessary.
    • Analyze equipment flows and inventory levels to identify adverse trends and recommend adjustments to equipment consist requests as necessary.
    • Coordinate with regional operating teams to ensure equipment requirements are met as requested.
    • Provide support in the capture and analysis of data to validate/revise port standards.
    • Develop operational models to quantify equipment flow issues to allow for more informed decision-making.
    • Identify opportunities to improve upon data collection and analysis tools and implement enhanced processes.
  • Provide analytical and functional support on other equipment initiatives including:
    • Development of ad hoc spreadsheets or other tools to model the flow of equipment, measure trends, analyze equipment needs, forecasts inventory levels, etc.
    • Equipment on-hire and off-hire.
    • Equipment repositioning to comply with regulatory requirements.
    • Equipment retirement.
    • Create/Update/Maintain other automated and manual reports distributed to management for equipment tracking as directed by the Manager – Equipment Control.
    • Monitor GEMS/Tableau for data integrity and work with Asset Management/GEMS Team to fix any bad information identified.
  • Participate in cross functional teams and represent Equipment Operations objectives.
  • Cover for the Manager – Equipment Control as needed, providing direction to the regions on required equipment flow requirements.
  • Maintain and improve current processes to enhance reporting and analysis capabilities.
  • Assist Manager – Equipment Control with initiatives to improve equipment utilization.
  • Some travel in support of projects and other initiatives may be required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in the transportation industry is desirable.
  • Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter and a willingness to reach out to others.
  • Ability to be successful working in teams or independently.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identity Credential (TWIC)

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, lookup functions, power queries, presenting data via graphs and tables, etc.
  • Familiarity with and a solid understanding of relational database function and principles.
  • Working knowledge and experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau
