Description:
The Assistant Director is responsible for helping oversee the creation, development, and implementation of all the Environmental Resource Center’s Semester Initiatives. Duties include, but not limited to: planning and facilitating meetings and events, on-campus organizations & community outreach, and management of interns. The Assistant Director will facilitate coordinators and interns collaborating with other departments, AS and university programs, and student groups to promote sustainability on the San Francisco State campus.
Responsibilites:
●Assist the ERC Director and help facilitate the Fall/Spring workload of running the three areas: Sol Patch Garden, Sustainability Initiatives, and Environmental Justice Movements.
● Attend bi-weekly meetings scheduled with AS Program Directors
● Support events and partnership development with AS Programs and the university’s Sudexo, Facilities and Waste, and local organizations, such as Recology, SF Environment, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and vendors
● Assists the Director in event planning throughout the semester (i.e. catering requests, guest speaker forms and communication, Gator Experience event applications, etc.)
● Assists ERC Director and Staff with the hiring process to recruit open ERC coordinator positions & internship roles
● Coordinate with other SFSU departments (i.e. Sustainable SF State), AS Programs (i.e. Women’s Center), and student groups (i.e. ECOstudents) to promote sustainability and social justice on campus
● Facilitate the monthly AS Sustainability Assembly meetings with the BOD Sustainability and Basic Needs Director
● Coordinate with the AS VP of Facilities & Services to write the Sustainability Assembly agenda
● Represent the Environmental Resource Center at the Sustainability Committee
● Assists in monitoring expenditures related to the ERC; project budgetary needs and make adjustments as needed; assist in the process of developing the annual budget
● Manages the ERC emailing list, volunteer attendance, and oversees AS Event Feedback form
● Assists ERC Director in intern evaluations (midterm, final)
● Directly oversee ERC social media, communications, event planning interns
● Contribute to the Annual ERC Report. Collect and edit Monthly ERC reports
● Maintains relationships with food vendors and SFSU staff to support gardening and waste management needs, e.g. Recology and SFSU Grounds Department.
● Develop resolutions, policy initiatives to address sustainability and social justice issues on campus.
● Other duties assigned by the ERC Director as needed
Grade Level: Rising seniors
Qualifications:
- Must be a student at San Francisco State University enrolled in least 6 units for undergraduates or 4 units for graduates.
- Must be able to attend most Food Rescues (currently Fridays from 7:00pm - 9:00pm).
- Must have passion for and/or background in environmental sustainability, environmental justice, and community organizing.
- Must take initiative and have direct decision-making calls
- Previous volunteer work with the ERC and/or environmental organizations is a plus
- Excellent written skills; highly experienced with email correspondence
- Excellent verbal skills; able to give presentations and lead meetings
- Excellent organizational skills; experience with creating/managing calendars and agendas.
- Excellent time-management
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets, Microsoft Word/Google Docs, and Microsoft Powerpoint/Google Slides.
- Must be able to carry out physical work associated with Waste Audits and Food Rescue.
- Attention to detail, as well as strong leadership, time management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in diverse groups and independently.
Location: San Francisco, CA
Days/Hours per Week: Up to 20 hours per week
Pay Range: $17.70 per hour
Duration of Position: Indefinite, while student remains enrolled
