Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA)

Embark upon your professional career in accounting with the MSA program at SF State.

The MSA program is flexible for business and non-business undergraduates and is designed to meet the academic course work requirements for the Certified Professional Accounting (CPA) examination. Specialized areas of study include financial accounting, auditing, managerial accounting, taxation, and accounting information systems. MSA graduates have moved on to career opportunities with global leaders that include Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, KPMG, Chevron, Moss Adams, Grant Thornton, Burr Pilger Mayer, and Armanino LLP.

You may choose one of the following paths:

  • Accelerated Path: You already have a bachelor’s degree in accounting and want to enhance the marketability of your degree for career advancement. Earn your MSA in just a few months or longer depending on your preferences.
  • Transition Path: You have a bachelor’s degree in an area other than accounting. You can complete your MSA in less than two years.
  • International Student Path: International students follow the same course in the Transition Path, in addition to international requirements. For more information, please visit International Student Admissions.

Degree Requirements

You must attend a required orientation that includes professional development workshops, and complete the MSA Foundation courses plus 10 Advanced Requirement courses.
