Daniel Ciomek grew up in Germany and studied Business Administration in Fulda (https://www.hs-fulda.de/en/. His college highlight, aside from discovering the Netscape browser and the Internet, was a guest semester at Hawaii Pacific University (https://www.hpu.edu/), living in Waikiki. After graduation he worked as a Key Account Manager in the telecommunications industry in Frankfurt for a few years.

Daniel moved to the U.S. and completed the MBA program here at SF State, and then worked in enterprise software marketing for multiple years. Since he started teaching at SF State in 2012, Daniel has taught over 13,300 students. He received the Lam-Larsen Distinguished Teaching Professorship Award (2021-2023) from the Lam Family College of Business, the 2022 CESB Teaching Award from the Center for Ethical & Sustainable Business, and the 2025 SF State Academic Senate Distinguished Faculty (Lecturer) Award for Excellence in Teaching.

In 2018, Daniel envisioned and launched the official Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification program for Excel and Access at SF State. To date, over 1,350 students have taken MOS exams and over 675 Microsoft certificates have been issued. https://cob.sfsu.edu/is/microsoft-office-specialist-certification

Daniel loves to travel and is a strong believer in lifelong learning and work-life balance, whatever that is. He visited over 40 countries on 6 continents for business and pleasure so far. Fun fact: according to Audible, Daniel spent over 2 months of his life listening to audio books already, and that does not include the Libby app (https://libbyapp.com/).
