The Economics Department offers a B.A. and M.A. in Economics. We are a medium-sized department with approximately 11 full time faculty members.
Vision: The Economics Department vision is to be a quality academic department that provides best possible education to our undergraduate and graduate students, trains student scholars and fosters original intellectual growth through research.
Mission: Our mission is to prepare our students, through high quality teaching and research, to be engaged and informed citizens, and to contribute productively in their careers using knowledge learned during their study of Economics.

Economics Department Graduation Celebration 2019
The Department of Economics invites all graduating Economics Undergraduate and Graduate Students and their families, faculty and staff to a reception [pdf]. Date and time: Tuesday, May 28, 10:00am – 12:00pm, J. Paul Leonard Library, Room 121 – SF State Campus. Purchase reception tickets online (by credit card) at UCORP e-Market website (scroll to Economics Department), or in person (by check) at HSS 142. Important: online ticket sales will close 5:00 pm on May 20 - please purchase ticket(s) by this date. Cost: $15 per person / $10 for 3-10 years old.
Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar
Dr. Paula Stephan will be speaking on "Are the Foreign Born a Source of Strength for Science?" on Tuesday, April 9, 7:00pm – 8:30pm, in HSS 130. Everybody is welcome to attend! Dr. Stephan is a labor economist from Georgia State University and is this year’s SFSU Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar.
