Student entrepreneurs win Innovation Pitch Competition

Three interdisciplinary teams of students from the Lam Family College of Business and the College of Science and Engineering were awarded $10,000 in prizes during the Entrepreneurship Symposium and Innovation Pitch Competition on Friday, June 5th.

A panel of expert judges selected three winning teams, who took home a total of $10,000 to help them develop their innovative startups. In addition, all participants received actionable advice and feedback about their business ideas. Read more about the winning teams below.

Simba Police

First Place

Kunal Shah (Master of Science in Computer Science), Jugal Bhatt (Master of Science in Computer Science), and Shraddha Upadthyay (Master of Science in Business Analytics), created Simba Police, a hands-free system that uses Interactive Voice Response (IVR) to assist first responders and save valuable seconds in emergencies. Simba aims to help police officers and other first responders in getting instant support regarding navigation, records, messaging, and making calls through a virtual assistant.
 

Koob

Second Place

Luke Del Aguila (Marketing), Kimberly Flores (Management), Bryan Parji-Zborowski (Marketing), Soheil Ansari (Master of Science in Computer Science), Dhwan Shah (Master of Science in Computer Science), and Professor of Computer Science Ilmi Yoon created Koob, an e-reader application for English as Second Language students. Their goal is to enable college students to engage with real-time definitions while doing class readings and allow professors to use student data as a tool to guide instruction focus in the classroom.
