Student Teams Awarded at 2021 Appathon Challenge

Mobile Appathon Challenge

Seven student teams were awarded for their innovative app ideas and prototypes at the Appathon Challenge held on May 20, 2021, co-sponsored by SAP AppHaus and the Lam Family College of Business.

This annual contest, open to all San Francisco State University students, is about exploring innovative ideas for shaping tomorrow’s business, environmental, civic, and social landscapes through software applications and mobile technology. Student submissions were evaluated based on multiple criteria, including:

  • Ideation creativity
  • User experience design excellence
  • Technical feasibility / core functionality implementation effectiveness
  • Business viability

Each winning team addressed a practical problem of personal, business, environmental, philanthropy, health, or social significance. Read more about each of the awards and the winning teams below.

Grand Prize Winner

Awarded to the team that proposes the best overall app based on all evaluation criteria. The winning team receives $400 Amazon Gift Card.

HomeCooks Team

For providing a platform which home cooks can use to safely sell food online while sharing their family recipes.

Team Members:  Anish Batajoo, Zeny Wong, Alexandra Orozco, and Andrew Li

Most Innovative App

Awarded to the team that proposes the most innovative app idea that has the potential to disrupt the traditional business model.

Meet2Meat Team

For developing a mobile solution to provide environmentally conscientious consumers with access to locally curated meat.

Team Members:  Roma Gray, Sai Punith Godasi, and Francisco Machado

Best Business App

Awarded to the team that proposes the most viable business idea that is practical and most likely to be developed into a profitable business.

Ketchup Team

For creating a video-commerce platform that helps restaurants increase sales through customer-generated video reviews.

Team Members:  Cailyn Ghara, Shibanga Gyawali, Esteban Rodriguez, Jimmy Yee, and Neha Kamboj

Best Health App

Awarded to the team that proposes the most meaningful app idea that delivers social and health values.

Emunize Team

For creating a scheduling app that reduces user frustration and vaccine waste, while increasing overall vaccination rates.

Team Members:  Michael Mejia, Kyle Alvarado, and Selina Ng

Best Community App

Awarded to the team that proposes the most meaningful app idea that delivers social, environmental, philanthropy, health, and education values.

SFSU Safe Team

For developing a mobile solution to improve SFSU campus safety by connecting classmates to form walk-together groups during night classes.

Team Members:  Cindy Zhou, Lingxiao Cai, and Jin Lin

Best UX/UI Design

Awarded to the team that prototypes the best user experience through interface design.

Health Bridge Team

For developing a friendly app to empower users to securely share and control their own healthcare data.

Team Members:  Nicholas Richmond, Sina Riahi, Aditya Tamhankar, and Jacob Solomon

Best Social App

Awarded to the team that delivers the most useful social app idea.

PerfectSnap Team

For publicizing location-based camera settings to help newbies reproduce similar photos and to coordinate photography meetups/trips.
