Professor of Management Ron Purser discussed the convergence of misinformation and mindfulness influencers amidst uncertain times.
In times of unrest, Purser explains, societies see a rise in groups of people who are attracted to esoteric ideas mixing them with political movements. Recently, this wave of "conspiritualism" has begun to overlap with influencers on social media. "A common theme in such movements is the need for purification, purifying and purging unwanted elements – toxins, impurities, or anything foreign or other," Purser says. "This is why we see so many New Age yoga practitioners seduced by QAnon."
