Professor John Logan publishes op-ed on providing benefits to grocery workers during COVID-19

Tartine Workers Unionizing

As other states reclassify grocery workers as "essential personnel," California is being pushed to take action.

Grocery workers are on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic, yet many have not received any benefits to help them stay healthy and able to work. In his op-ed for Truthout, Logan argues in favor of an essential personnel designation for these workers, which would provide them access to childcare, medical benefits, paid sick leave, hazard pay, and additional security measures.

"They deserve not only our enormous thanks and gratitude - they must also be adequately protected and compensated," Logan says. "They are working for us at considerable personal risk; we need to act now to protect them."
