Professor and Chair of Labor and Employment Studies John Logan discussed labor unionization at a Starbucks store in Buffalo, New York.
Buffalo-area Starbucks became the coffee chain's only unionized store after its employees won this groundbreaking union election. Logan spoke to The New York Times, Vice, Reuters, and The Conversation regarding the results of Starbucks employees' votes.
Although other Starbucks stores in the United States remain non-unionized, Logan says this victory has a symbolic importance. "Workers who want to form a union in the United States are forced to take a considerable risk, and it helps if they can see others who have taken that risk and it has paid off," he adds.
