Professor and Chair of Labor and Employment Studies John Logan discussed the ways anti-union firms use data on employees to pepersuade workers to vote "no" in a union drive without breaking labor laws.
"Consultants specialize in operating in the grey areas of the law," Logan said. "They’re not quite illegal but they’re sort of bending the law if they’re not breaking it. You cannot interrogate people about their union sympathies. You can’t spy to figure out workers’ possible sympathies, you can’t threaten them. You can’t make promises." Logan tells VICE these consultants are becoming more sophisticated, both in the ways the analyze data and how they convey the anti-union message.
