Professor and Chair of Labor and Employment Studies John Logan spoke to MarketWatch about the PRO Act and other changes to gig work under Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh.
Workers, unions, and labor studies experts are are urging Congress to pass the Protect the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, which they believe would enhance and protect the right to form unions and collectively bargain. Some critics, however, worry that the PRO Act may cause freelance workers to lose their jobs. "There will still be a lot of that around," says Logan, "the issue is employees are controlled by the companies and the algorithms."
