Professor of Management John Sullivan discussed what furloughs are and what they mean for workers.

Google searches for “what does furlough mean?” are up more than 5,000% over the last 30 days, and furloughs appear to be at a record high. While furloughs are temporary, Sullivan believes some furloughed workers will not return to their jobs once the pandemic is over. “Companies like Tesla will come back and end the furloughs," he said, "while many retailers like Macy’s will never return to their current level of employment, because of Amazon’s dominance."
