The award winning SFSU VITA program seeks volunteers

US tax formsHelp SF State carry on the VITA tradition! We need some great volunteers for this upcoming tax season. Last year we received recognition from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and CPA firms.

Thanks to Moss Adams' generous donation, we now have more equipment to pursue our mission. Please help us continue to be the most successful and largest VITA site in the Bay Area, and earn valuable business experience as well!

What is VITA?

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) is a national program that provides free tax preparation assistance to individuals that are of low income, elderly, limited in English proficiency, and disabled. Our mission is to provide tax assistance to individuals who cannot afford the services of a paid professional tax preparer.

What are the benefits of VITA volunteers?

Find endless opportunities and benefits by volunteering for VITA, including:

  • Serve the community
  • Free training and free textbooks
  • Certificate of recognition from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
  • Valuable addition to your resume and a great career builder
  • Great hands-on learning experience
  • Build your communication skills

Who can join VITA?

VITA welcomes SFSU students and alumni from all majors (and is not limited to only Accounting or Business majors). Volunteers are expected to attend FOUR comprehensive tax sessions from January 5th to 8th, 2015. Also, volunteers are expected to commit a minimum of 2 hours per week from January 26th to the end of April 2015. All volunteers will be scheduled for a short interview with one of our officers during November 3rd to 14th, 2014.
