SF State community tinkers with the world of 3D printing

This holiday season, SF State gets a taste of what it’s like to be one of Santa’s elves: through 3D printing.

Sameer Verma, professor of information systems, hosts two open house events to showcase one of the university’s 3D printers in action. Watch Professor Verma turn 3D modeling files into real-life product prototypes, as he shares how the 3D printing space is evolving into a vibrant hobby and professional industry.

Until recently, 3D printers were available exclusively to corporations with sufficiently large spaces and deep pockets to house and afford the technology. Now, 3D printers are accessible to mainstream consumers thanks to companies such as Printrbot that produce affordable desktop models.

All students, staff, and faculty are invited. No prior experience in toy-making at the North Pole is required!
