SFSU students Andrey Klyuyev and Roland Fang received funding from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) to collaborate with their students for a week before co-present their IoT projects at Sugar Network Expo in Palo Alto. Sugar Network platform enables students to form inter-culture, multidisciplinary teams and work together on exciting design challenges provided by corporate partners. This is the first time our students are representing SFSU at this exciting event, they are collaborating with USTC on technology challenges provided by IngDan, an IoT company headquartered in both Shenzhen, China and Santa Clara, USA.
University of Science and Technology of China is a top engineering university which receives direct support and funding from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. They are the only Chinese university which has been participating in the Sugar Network collaboration for the past 3 years. In January, 10 USTC students visited both of my Mobile Development classes (ISYS556 and ISYS856), and presented their Design Thinking IoT projects, five of our student teams decided to collaborate with Chinese students to co-develop IoT and mobile app solutions with them.
In March, USTC confirmed that they intend to sponsor our students to visit their campus during the last week of May, our students and Chinese students are expected to intensely work together to finalize their project solutions. The funding package provided by USTC includes up to 10,000 RMB for roundtrip ticket between US and China per student, free boarding at USTC, and 500 RMB stipend for food and other expenses per student.
From June 6th to June 10th, total 6 SFSU students (4 more students beside Andrey and Roland) will join USTC students to co-present and demonstrate their innovative solutions at Sugar Expo. On June 12th, the sponsor company IngDan will host a d.InnoShow competition for USTC and SFSU students at its Santa Clara office, the judges are from industry and many Silicon Valley IoT companies will be there, and it’s another great opportunity for our students to showcase their talents.
