Erby L. He is a CPA with broad experience creating business strategies that increase customer satisfaction, drive profitable growth, and expand market share. Erby serves on Board of Directors of Enactus, Glide Foundation, Museum of African Diaspora, and Network of Executive Women. Prior to Clorox, Erby held senior positions at AAA Chicago, McDonald's Corporation, and PepsiCo. Sarah Gerber, Producer, The Way Back to Yarasquin
Sarah Gerber is a storyteller, founder, artist, strategist, and entrepreneur. With an award-winning debut documentary, Sarah has worked on projects in Laos, Amsterdam, South Sudan, London, and Honduras with various organizations and projects. She holds degrees in Fine Arts and English Literature and also has experience working in non-profits and international development. Sarah has served on leadership and advisory boards to several non-profit organizations, and has a commitment to making the world a better place, one story at a time.
Nick Kordesch, Sustainability Coordinator, San Francisco State University
Nick Kordesch's work at SF State includes greenhouse gas accounting, waste reduction, outreach, and events. His prior jobs have included sustainability consulting and third party certification of sustainable products, including food products. He holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science and Management from UC Santa Barbara and a B.S. from UC Berkeley.
Kevin O'Brien, Chief Technology Officer, Kiva.org
Kevin O'Brien sets the technological vision for the engineering organization and works to leverage the resources and software available to help Kiva operate and scale. His primary responsibility is ensuring that the Kiva platform runs perfectly behind the scenes so that lenders and borrowers across the world can benefit from and delight in the Kiva experience without worrying about the technology that drives it. Kevin joined Kiva in 2011 to enable global opportunity via technology. Earlier in his career, Kevin served with AmeriCorps, developed services architectures at San Francisco State University, maintained satellite receivers and systems for California Maritime Academy, and worked to save the desert tortoise for Student Conservation Association. He studied Computer Programming at Daytona State College and holds a degree in International Relations from San Francisco State University.
Ryan Ramey, Compliance Consultant, Ethics & Integrity Department, Kaiser Permanente
Ryan is also currently enrolled in the Ethics and Compliance Certificate Program at San Francisco State University. Ryan has master’s degree in healthcare administration from CSU, East Bay and has a bachelor’s degree in public administration from CSU, Chico.
Tim Shaw, Chef, Vista Room, SF State
Tim Shaw has a bachelor degree in archeology from Williams College, a Masters in Food Studies from NYU, and recently finished an MPA in sustainable management focusing on food policy from Presidio Graduate School. He has been a working chef for over 20 years, doing both restaurant and catering work as well as private cheffing in NYC, The Hamptons and Aspen; and an educator for 15 where his main area of interest has been food safety, food systems, GMOs and issues of sustainability. He is a home brewer, soap maker, potter and really horrible but enthusiastic bass guitar player. He also was a nationally ranked out athlete 25 years before being an out athlete got you on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
Caitlin Steele, Director of Sustainability & Energy, SF State
Caitlin Steele is completing her 8th year with San Francisco State University and is proud to have spearheaded the development of the sustainability program for the campus that encompasses 145 acres and supports 30,000 students. After completing her MBA with an emphasis in sustainable business she now enjoys her free time filled with temper tantrums and mornings starting at five am with her two kids and her husband.
Paul Tasner, Co-founder & CEO of PulpWorks
Paul Tasner is a senior executive with more than 35 years of experience in all facets of supply chain management. He has held leadership positions in procurement, manufacturing, and logistics in ventures ranging from start-up to Fortune 100. His career focus has been on supply chain sustainability, strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management. His company affiliations include: The Clorox Company, California Closets, Method Products, Two Degrees Food and Hepagen Vaccines. In 2008, Paul founded the San Francisco Bay Area Green Supply Chain Forum – the first such assembly of supply chain executives anywhere. Paul has authored many papers and presentations on supply chain sustainability and currently lectures on this timely topic in the MBA Program at San Francisco State University. He holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Boston University.
Tom Thomas, Ph.D., Professor, Lam Family College of Business at San Francisco State University
Professor Thomas teaches graduate and undergraduate classes in Environment of Business.
His current research focuses on corporate environmental management, sustainable business strategies, and how companies manage conflicts of interest.
Before coming to San Francisco State University, he spent five years as a consultant in local economic development, market research, and PR strategy for high-tech companies.
He began his academic career as an assistant professor in the University of Washington's School of Business Administration, where he spent eight years teaching courses in business, government, and society. While there, he conducted research primarily in business political strategy and corporate environmental management, and co-founded the first M.B.A. Environmental Managment program in the U.S.
Clement Tsang, SF State undergraduate student
Clement Tsang is a creative writing major at San Francisco State University and president of The Real Food Challenge on campus. He has been with RFC since the Fall of 2015 and is currently managing the Real Food Calculator Team. He hopes we can achieve 20% real food by 2020 across all 23 CSU campuses. He writes short stories about food.
William Murad, Founder, Unleashed Coffee
I am the guy who grows your coffee in Brazil. I was raised on our farm, spending my time there every weekend and during all school breaks. While I also love working with the farm animals, coffee became my true passion. I planted my first coffee plantation when I was 13 years old, with the help of my father. I still remember planting those tiny Acaiá seedlings and thinking, now I am a cattle herder and a coffee farmer.
