Wine Branding and Strategy Program
Subodh Bhat, professor of marketing, teaches marketing strategy and brand management at San Francisco State University, and has recently focused on the branding of wine.
Based on his research, Subodh Bhat has presented seminars to over a hundred wine industry owners and managers.
His presentation to members of the major wine-growers and vintners’ associations in the Bay area has covered topics including:
- a primer on the basics of brand strategy
- the role of branding strategy in sales, tourism and exporting
- best practices in wine branding
- tips on branding
- the role of wine region branding in sales, tourism and exporting

Professor of Marketing Subodh Bhat
Professor Subodh Bhat has a Ph.D. in marketing and is professor of marketing at San Francisco State. He mainly teaches marketing strategy and brand management to MBA and Executive MBA students.
He has also been visiting scholar at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, visiting associate professor at Stanford University and visiting professor at the University of California at Berkeley, and at many international universities.
His research interests include brand strategy, the use of controversial advertising and entrepreneurship. He has published several articles in journals such as the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Product and Brand Management and Journal of Consumer Marketing.
He has consulted with and has offered executive training on various strategic marketing and brand management issues at several businesses. He has most recently conducted research on wine branding and has presented seminars on this subject to executives at small and medium Bay area wineries.
