Message from the Marketing Department Chair
As the Chair of the Marketing Department of the College of Business at San Francisco State, I'm happy to welcome you to our website and our department.
In spite of these turbulent economic times, our faculty is committed to the notion that in today's business environment, there is no function more important, or exciting than Marketing. If you are interested in learning more about the field of Marketing before committing to the concentration, Principles of Marketing (MKTG 431) is a required course for all Business majors. This popular course is offered via a number of convenient methods of delivery including in-person lectures, which are video taped and then made available for online viewing wherever and whenever it's convenient for you, and thanks to its cutting edge delivery methods, this course has unlimited enrollment for upper division students.
Once you've completed MKTG 431 (the prerequisite for all other Marketing courses), there are three required courses (Consumer Behavior, Marketing Research and Marketing Management), and your choice of any four of our electives needed to complete your degree.
Regardless of whether you are interested in a career in brand management, advertising, public relations, product design, marketing research, or retailing, a concentration in Marketing can help you accomplish your goals. Our course in Internet Marketing (MKTG 469) will help you stay abreast of the latest innovations in online marketing and social media. If you are looking for hands on experience to supplement your traditional course work, we are happy to offer Internship in Marketing (MKTG 567), which has become a stepping stone to "real world" employment for a number of our students. Finally if you are interested in applying your marketing powers in the non-profit arena, we are happy to offer Community Service Learning class Advertising Creativity and Production (MKTG 440).
Social Media Week Feb. 13, 2012
This semester we are especially happy to be hosting several days of the exciting Social Media Week event at our beautiful downtown campus at 835 Market Street. Please check out Social Media Week San Francisco on Facebook and Twitter for more details about this timely and educational event, and while at our downtown campus, please make sure to ask about our MBA and Executive MBA programs or learn more about them at http://cob.sfsu.edu/cob/graduate.
For guidance or assistance on our main campus, please feel free to visit our faculty during their scheduled office hours, as well as the outstanding advisors in the Business Student Service Center (BUS 112), who can answer questions about your undergraduate major and minor requirements, registration, probation and graduation.
