Janet Sim
Department Chair, Hospitality and Tourism Management
Professor Janet Sim joined San Francisco State University in 1986 and has been the chair of the department of Hospitality and Tourism Management in the College of Business since 1995. She designed and taught most of the foodservice management courses at SF State.
Professor Sim coordinates student learning in The Vista Room, a restaurant for fine dining. She was responsible for the acquisition of foodservice equipment in The Vista Room, the Quantity Food Production Lab, and the Miele Lab that provides the state-of-the-art real-life facilities and environment for students to gain hands-on experience while learning the fundamentals of food management, production, services, catering and restaurant management.
She also actively implemented implemented a strong HTM advisory council, the HTM Symposium and Career Fair, the Taste of the Bay Fundraiser, and the HTM Study Abroad Program.
Professor Sim has published in a number of hospitality and tourism journals in the areas of hospitality service quality, customer service, loyalty, customer satisfaction and retention, and information technology learning.
