Bill Sokol

Lecturer, Labor and Employment Studies

Bill Sokol is a practicing labor lawyer with the largest union-side law firm in the nation. He is a senior partner in the firm, which represents over four hundred labor organizations and Taft-Hartley benefit Funds. He litigates in State Courts, Federal Courts, and practices extensively in arbitrations, as well as participating in collective bargaining from time to time.

He has also been a talk show host at KPFA/KPFB/KFCF FM, Pacifica Radio, for over 20 years, and does regular commentaries on the law for KQED FM.

He has a B.A. from University of Wisconsin at Madison, an M.A. in American History from UCBerkeley, where he was an Instructor, and went to Yale Law School, and Boalt Hall School of Law, from which he received his Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) All of which means he is a D.J. with a J.D.

He has taught at UC Berkeley, USF, SFCC, and Laney College, and occasionally guest lectures in Journalism classes in the Bay Area. He is married to Cynthia Gorney, a journalist with the Washington Post, whose first book, Articles of Faith, A Frontline History of the Abortion Wars, was just published by Simon&Schuster.
