Roopa Batni (MBA 2009)
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
After completing her B.S. in marketing and international business from The University of Arizona, Roopa worked as a field manager for Gap, Inc. in Southern California before beginning her MBA coursework at SF State. She was interested in the area of sustainability and wanted to incorporate it into her job, which led her to the MBA program.
In addition to providing herself with a well-rounded understanding of sustainable business concepts, Roopa says that the Sustainable Business program made her more conscientious of practicing environmentally-friendly behavior in her personal life. She especially enjoyed the classroom curriculum, which consists of textbook theory, guest speakers, and case analyses. Roopa feels that the education she gained in her MBA emphasis at SF State helped her to secure a job in a related field upon graduation.
Roopa now works for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) where she evaluates and audits EPA programs and projects nationwide for compliance with environmental regulations. She also ensures that the programs promote the EPA’s mission of protecting human health and safeguarding the natural environment. More specifically, Roopa is responsible for promoting program efficiency and driving cost-effectiveness within the EPA’s processes nationwide.
In the future, Roopa hopes to continue to leverage the knowledge that she gained from SF State’s MBA program into practical applications in her position within the EPA. She aims to further develop her skill set as the field develops. She would also like to transfer her practical experience and knowledge to others by becoming an educator within the sustainability arena.
