Aaron Anderson, Director of Strategic Organizational Initiatives

Aaron AndersonAaron Anderson, Ph.D, is the author of Engaging Resistance: How Ordinary People Successfully Champion Change, (Stanford University Press, 2011). He has been working  for San Francisco State University in a variety of capacities since 2003, and is currently the College of Business’s very first director of strategic organizational initiatives.

Aaron earned his Ph.D from the University of Michigan with a specialization in management and organizational behavior focused on understanding resistance to change. He teaches a course in the Executive MBA Program called Managing Organizational Change, and is active as a volunteer board member of Educate our State, a California-wide organization aiming to fix what ails our public schools.

Casey Brennan, Account Supervisor, FleishmanHillard

Casey BrennanCasey Brennan, joined FleishmanHillard in January 2013, bringing her expertise in corporate social responsibility (CSR), employee engagement and cause marketing to the Global CSR and Sustainability practice. As an account supervisor, Ms. Brennan works with clients including the Better Than Cash Alliance, Ross Stores, salesforce.com and Visa to develop and sustain meaningful CSR initiatives and effectively communicate with internal and external audiences.

Before joining FleishmanHillard, Ms. Brennan was Marketing & Insights Manager at VolunteerMatch, the Web’s largest volunteer engagement network. Of note were her achievements in refining the organization’s brand, development of the corporate sub-brand and publishing the first-ever series of original insights spanning the topics of employee volunteer programs, community involvement and employee engagement.

Previously, Ms. Brennan was a member of the Research & Insights team at Cone Communications in Boston. In this role she focused on thought leadership activities within the hallmark practice areas of cause branding, corporate responsibility and nonprofit marketing.

Ms. Brennan graduated Magna Cum Laude from Simmons College with a B.A. in management.

Tina Caratan, CPA, Accounting Lecturer

Tina Caratan has nearly 40 years of audit and consulting experience to a variety of entities in the not-for-profit arena. Prior to retiring her partnership interest in Moss Adams LLP, she was the partner in charge of the Northern California Not for Profit practice group.   She is a frequent speaker at various venues and conferences including, CSCPA Government Accounting Conference, Northern California Planned Giving Council Conference, American Council of Gift Annuities, Financial Executive’s Forum, Financial Administrators Officers Group, Council on Foundations, Stanford University, Santa Clara University, and American Women’s Society of CPAs.

In her current consulting practice she provides a wide range of high-end financial and management services to NFP organizations throughout California, including SF Symphony, Exploratorium, Inner City Advisors, Fund Good Jobs, Diocese of Orange County (CA), Akonadi, AWDF-USA, The Asia Foundation, StreetSmart for Kids, RETA Trust, Women’s Initiative for Self Employment, Asian Community Mental Health Services, Ronald McDonald House – SF, Earthjustice.

Tina is currently an adjunct professor at San Francisco State University where she teaches Not for Profit/Government Accounting.  She is licensed as a CPA in California, Colorado, and New York.

Prior to founding Propane Studio, Neil amassed over a dozen years experience providing digital brand activation and business automation to both the financial and technology sectors, serving globally recognized clients such as Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard and Wells Fargo.

Jose Cisneros, San Francisco City Treasurer

Jose Cisneros, San Francisco City Treasurer

José Cisneros is the elected Treasurer of the City and County of San Francisco. He has been in office since 2004. As treasurer, José serves as the City's banker and chief investment officer, and manages tax and revenue collection for San Francisco. Treasurer Cisneros believes that his role of safeguarding the city’s money should extend to all San Franciscans and, as such, has embarked upon an ambitious financial empowerment agenda since taking office. The most known of these programs is an innovative public-private partnership to bank the unbanked called Bank on San Francisco, launched in 2006. Today Bank On programs are being replicated by nearly 100 cities and states nationwide.

Treasurer Cisneros has since launched the San Francisco Office of Financial Empowerment (OFE). Its newest initiatives include Kindergarten to College, the first universal matched children’s savings account program in a public school system in the country and CurrenC SF, an employer-focused initiative designed to make electronic pay universal for all workers in San Francisco.

To further this work on a national level, San Francisco joined with New York City to create the Cities for Financial Empowerment coalition, a group of pioneering municipal governments from across the country working to advance innovative financial empowerment initiatives.

Geoff Desa, Ph.D.

Geoff DesaGeoff Desa is an assistant professor of management in the College of Business at San Francisco State University. He teaches business & society, strategic management, and social entrepreneurship. Geoff's research examines resource mobilization and venture development in the technology and social entrepreneurship sector. He earned his Ph.D. in business from the University of Washington in Seattle with emphases in technology entrepreneurship, strategic management, and public affairs.

Prior to that, Geoff worked at Novera Optics and at Hewlett Packard as an optical engineer. He earned his M.S. in electrical engineering from Stanford University. He is on the board of the Common Data Project, a technology social venture engaged in information technology privacy.

Katie Excoffier, Environmental Sustainability Manager, Genentech

Katie Excoffier, Environmental Sustainability Manager, GenentechKatie Excoffier is the environmental sustainability manager at Genentech in South San Francisco, responsible for sustainability strategy, performance, and reporting. She leads a cross-functional sustainability council with teams focused on energy, water, waste, transportation, wellness, and green biopharma. She also runs Genentech's Green Genes team, a 2000-member employee green team.

Before coming to Genentech, Katie had 20 years of experience in the analytical instrument business, progressing from software engineer to project manager to R&D manager to business manager.

Katie holds a B.A. in biology from UCSD, an M.S. in genetics from UC Berkeley, and an M.B.A. in sustainable management from Presidio Graduate School.

Christian Jurinka, Chief Engagement Officer and Co-Founder, Attack! Marketing

Christian Jurinka, Chief Engagement Officer and Co-Founder, Attack! MarketingChristian Jurinka is responsible for Attack!’s strategic vision and has set the agency’s direction over the past decade as it has continued to evolve for its brand clients. His inquisitive nature and energy has driven major advancements in how Attack! delivers value and excellence, including groundbreaking in-house platforms and operations. Prior to Attack!, Christian was an international management consultant for Accenture serving major overseas corporations, and has a deep background in international relations. When not in the office or on the road, he can be found surfing or at home in the hills above San Francisco with his wife and two kids.

His notable work in product positioning, brand launches, demographic seeding, and brand extension underscore a career spent forging new industry standards of excellence. Christian also enjoys the opportunity to collaborate and speak before colleagues as he’s done for 4A’s, EventMarketer, and INC 500 CEO Roundtables addressing topics of experiential, international trade, and secrets of the emerging entrepreneur.

Lisa Lau, Chief Financial Officer, Bank of San Francisco

Lisa Lau has been with the Bank of San Francisco since its organization in 2005 and has 14 years of banking experience. In her role as chief financial officer, Lisa oversees the bank’s finance and accounting functions. Lisa also serves as the bank’s corporate secretary and is the secretary of the Bank’s Executive Committee, chair and secretary of the Bank’s Investment Committee, and member and secretary of the Bank’s Asset Liability Management Committee. Prior to joining Bank of San Francisco, Lisa worked at City National Bank and CivicBank of Commerce in various positions with increasing responsibility in commercial banking.

Lisa is a 2009 graduate of Leadership San Francisco. She is an active member of the Asian Business League and has volunteered with organizations focused on serving the Asian & Pacific Islander community and youth education, such as RAMS, Inc. and Junior Achievement of Northern California. Lisa earned her Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, in Business Administration, Finance at San Francisco State University.

Annie Longsworth, CEO, Saatchi & Saatchi S

Annie LongsworthAnnie Longsworth is a brand and communications leader committed to positive change through business. She joined Saatchi & Saatchi S in 2012 after nine years as president of Cohn & Wolfe, San Francisco, where she helped establish the office in one of the world‘s most influential business regions—one that has spawned both the digital and green revolutions. Annie has 20 years of communications experience including editorial positions with U.S. business and technology publications and strategic marketing communications roles for dozens of companies, from start-ups to multinationals.

In January 2013, she was recognized by triple Pundit as one of the most influential women in CSR. In June 2013, the San Francisco Business Times listed her as one of the Bay Area’s Most Influential Women in Business. Annie has a B.A. from the College of Wooster, Wooster, Ohio and earned an executive M.B.A. certificate in sustainability from the Presidio Graduate School in spring 2010. She lives in San Francisco with her husband, two children, a dog and two cats.

Paul Mackinaw, Founder and Principal of LeanCog

Paul MackinawPaul Mackinaw is the founder and principal of LeanCog, a strategy and technology consulting firm focused on customer development based methodologies.

He has spent 16 years in professional services, starting his career at Accenture focusing on implementing emerging technologies for Fortune 100 clients. He left Accenture to manage RFID supply chain services at a start-up, R4GS (eventually acquired by VeriSign) creating innovative data capture, sharing and insight solutions. Next, Mr. Mackinaw ran a CRM consulting practice as VP of Professional Services at Echo Lane, a premier Salesforce.com consulting partner, growing it from three employees to the number four corporate sales partner at Salesforce, resulting in another successful acquisition.

Mr. Mackinaw holds MBAs from Columbia Business School (Beta Gamma Sigma) and Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley (with Honors).

Ms. Mulkey guides her clients through CSR from her unique marketing/communications and strategic thinking perspective and is skilled in navigating issues focused on business opportunity, charitable giving and employee engagement.

Ms. Mulkey’s experience includes work in education, sustainability, public health, economic development, and philanthropy. She provides comprehensive and integrated services to clients, including program development, branding, stakeholder engagement, partnership development, communications strategy, and media relations. Her client experience includes working with Visa Inc., Salesforce, PG&E, Safeway and many others.

Ed Obuchowski, Chief Executive Officer and Director, Bank of San Francisco

Ed Obuchowski, Chief Executive Officer and Director, Bank of San FranciscoEd Obuchowski is a 30-year career banker, having worked his entire career in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to forming Bank of San Francisco, he was senior vice president/team leader at City National Bank where he managed commercial banking for the San Francisco and West Bay markets. Prior to joining City National Bank, Ed held leadership positions at CivicBank of Commerce and First Interstate Bank.

A graduate of Leadership San Francisco in 1990, he is past chairman and a current board member of RAMS, Inc., a nonprofit mental health agency with an emphasis on serving Asian & Pacific Islander Americans. He was previously on the Board of Junior Achievement of the Northern California. Ed earned his B.A. degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, and graduated from Pacific Coast Banking School in 1988.

Bruce Paton, Ph.D.

Bruce PatonBruce Paton teaches courses on sustainable business, business models for poverty alleviation, and innovation for sustainability. He was named the Teaching Professor of the Year for the College of Business in 2005. He currently serves as chair of the Management Department.

Professor Paton was one of the founding members of the MBA Concentration in Sustainable Business and is currently helping to launch a new MBA emphasis in social innovation. His research focuses on business strategies for sustainability. A major emphasis in this research is development of methods for designing and evaluating collaborative initiatives to address social and environmental issues.

His teaching and research draws on more than 20 years of decision-making experience in industry, government and higher education.

His experience includes:

  • serving on the senior management team for a Silicon Valley startup
  • managing manufacturing, quality, and environmental projects at Hewlett-Packard
  • consulting for Fortune 500 companies, startup companies, government agencies, and not-for-profit organizations
  • helping launch Sustainable Silicon Valley, a collaboration of more than 200 businesses, government agencies, and NGOs
  • serving as director of admissions for Stanford University's MBA program

He currently serves on the editorial boards for two journals, Academy of Management Learning and Education, and Business Strategy and Environment.

Deep Sengupta, Principal, FedEx Trade and Customs Advisory Services

Deep Sengupta, Principal, FedEx Trade and Customs Advisory ServicesChiradeep (“Deep”) SenGupta is the Principal at FedEx Trade Networks Trade Services Inc. In his current capacity, Deep is responsible for relationships with international governments, international trade promotion agencies and trade associations. Deep also heads FedEx’s “Trade & Customs Advisory Services (TCAS)” group and provided international trade solutions and regulatory consulting to importers and exporters, within the U.S as well as on a world-wide basis.

Prior to joining FedEx in 2002, Deep was with KPMG’s Asia Pacific Tax practice from 1997 where he helped establish KPMG’s International Trade & Customs practice in India and advised several Fortune 500 clients on market-access issues for their South-Asian operations.

Deep obtained his basic legal training (LL.B) in India and then obtained a Masters in Law-Taxation (LL.M) from the University of Washington - School of Law (2001) in Seattle, WA where he won the Graduate Tax program Merit Scholarship. Deep has also received executive education on International Trade from Harvard University’s Kennedy School.

In February 2011, Deep was appointed by the U.S Secretary of Commerce to the President’s Export Council Subcommittee on Export administration (PECSEA) to advise the Obama administration on its export control reform efforts. Deep was also appointed by the U.S Secretary of Commerce to the District Export Council of Northern California, where he currently serves as the Educational chair since 2006. Deep routinely speaks on international trade issues to FedEx customers and trade associations.

Paul Tasner, Co-founder & CEO of PulpWorks

Paul Tasner, Co-founder & CEO of PulpWorksPaul Tasner, co-founder and CEO of PulpWorks, is a senior executive with more than 30 years of experience in all facets of supply chain management. He has held leadership positions in procurement, manufacturing, and logistics in ventures ranging from start-up to Fortune 100. His career focus has been on supply chain sustainability, strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management. His company affiliations include The Clorox Company, California Closets, Method Products, Two Degrees Food, and Hepagen Vaccines.

In 2008, Paul founded and continues to lead the San Francisco Bay Area Green Supply Chain Forum – the first such assembly of supply chain executives anywhere. Paul has authored many papers and presentations on supply chain sustainability and currently lectures on this timely topic in the MBA program at San Francisco State. He holds a B.S. in industrial engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Boston University.

Liz Walker, President, Reliable Property Management

Liz Walker, President, Reliable Property ManagementLiz Walker is the president of Reliable Property Management, a third party commercial real estate management company. She is a CPM® and a California licensed Broker. Liz has been managing commercial properties in the East Bay and South Bay since 1998, and in 2005 started her own company.

Liz was the 2010 president of IREM SF, and will be the 2014 chair of the Ethics Hearing and Discipline Board at the national level for that organization. In addition to her work with IREM, Liz was the 2012 president of BOMA Silicon Valley, and is the current chair of the BOMA TOBY (The Outstanding Building of the Year) awards for the Pacific Southwest Region.

Reliable Property Management specializes in B and C class office buildings. It also manages light industrial, retail, and commercial condo associations. Liz says, “I know what makes these older buildings creak. From the inside out, their needs are different than those of the glass and steel structures.”

Prior to her life as a real estate manager, Liz spent over 20 years as a litigation secretary, predominantly in real estate and construction defect litigation. She says, “I learned that, as a real estate manager, the lease is your best friend. Your job is to administer the terms of the lease, and a well-written lease clearly sets out the obligations of both parties to the agreement. This makes the manager’s job—maybe not easy—but at least clear.”

Liz and her husband Sam live in Dublin with their Bernese Mountain Dog, Deacon. They have two grown sons and one adorable daughter-in-law. In her free time, Liz does volunteer work with humanitarian relief organizations which deal predominantly with the plight of women in undeveloped and developing countries.

Mike Zlatoper, Managing Director, MekanismMike Zlatoper is the managing director at Mekanism. Before coming to Mekanism he was certainly not the most digitally savvy marketer out there. But after three years at Mekanism he’s a changed man helping more traditional brands transition to an engagement model.

Since joining Mekanism, their client roster has grown to include brands such as Pepsi, Method and Nordstrom.

Before Mekansim, he ran iconic global youth brands including Jeep, adidas, PlayStation, Levi’s and Ray-Ban. He has worked at some of the most creatively awarded agencies in the world, including TBWA\Chiat\Day, McCann Erickson and Agency 215.
