On October 26, 2006, approximately 200 students came to Jack Adams Hall in order to meet with companies who are hiring in their major. The event, titled Networking with Employers, is a semi-annual networking and career fair started this semester as a joint venture between the Information Management Systems Association (IMSA) and the student chapter of the Association for Computer Machinery (ACM). The purpose is to target graduating information systems, engineering, and computer science students with companies in order to bring both together.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>
The event began with a few words from the sponsors and an introduction of the attending employees. Special thanks go to Dean Nancy Hayes; IS Department Chair Professor Rob Nickerson; Professor Brenda Mak; and Professor Joshua Mindel. Their support was very much appreciated.
Companies such as Autodesk, VMWare, TiVo, Franchise Tax Board, and OSI attended the event. A panel of alumni was also present and gave out helpful tips for all stages of a job interview. At the end of the panel presentation, students mingled with the employers and the entire hall was filled with people speaking with each company. Students comments included: "I'm glad this event happened,†and “Networking is an integral part of getting a job.â€
