SF State MBA student Ayako Miyagushi, who heads up the San Francisco Chapter of Table for Two, organized an event in celebration of World Food Day on October 14, 2011, at the SF State Downtown Campus.
Over 150 people enjoyed wine and fine Japanese food, along with Posho, the meal Table for Two provides to Sub-Saharan Africa. Guests were able to video chat with other events taking place across the country taking part and say “Itadakimasu” together—the Japanese word for “bon appetit.” Approximately $2,500 was raised, which will send 10,000 school meals to countries such as Uganda, Rwanda, and Ethiopia.
Table for Two is a social enterprise founded in Japan in 2007 with the mission of simultaneously tackling the opposing issues of malnutrition in developing countries and obesity (and “over nutrition”) in the developed world. TFT accomplishes this by partnering with corporate cafeterias, university dining halls, and restaurants. To learn more about the organization, visit www.tablefor2.org/tft_usa
