The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) held an industry networking event in the Vista Room on Thursday, March 25, 2010.
Fifteen companies including Disney, DNC Parks and Resorts at Yosemite, Fairmont Hotel, Green Restaurant Strategies & Guest First Group, Hilton San Francisco Union Square, Holiday Inn Golden Gateway, InterContinental S.F., Lori's Diner, Omni SF Hotel, SFCVB, St. Francis Yacht Club, W San Francisco and Westin SFO participated in two HTM 590 Capstone Seminar classes that included aÂ networking luncheon with students and faculty.
Panel members gave the students numerous job search tips to use, especially during difficult economic times. Students were advised to be flexible, be creative, and prepare to be mobile and to think globally.
Other tips included:
- Display your passions in your interview and rÃ©sumÃ©
- Make it personal and make it authentic
- Know the company and know the opportunities within the company
- During an interview, ask questions!
- Be prepared to answer the question: â€œSo, tell me about yourselfâ€
Hospitality leaders concluded by telling the students the importance of writing a â€œthank-youâ€ card after an interview.
