An article co-written by Management Professor Mitchell Lee Marks, Christopher D. Zatzick, and Roderick D. Iverson, titled "Which Way Should You Downsize in a Crisis?" has recently been published in the MIT Sloan Management Review, 51 (1): 79-85, Fall 2009.
In the article, they develop an inductive framework that integrates the seemingly paradoxical practices of downsizing and talent management. The recent shift in the economy from a period of growth to one of contraction has left many organizations in a bind: how to manage recently acquired talent in a period of downsizing.
