Statewide educational nonprofit, Educate Our State, seeks a student intern interested in marketing, K-12 education and public policy, with a creative flair and general passion for public education, to join its team for the summer. 

The intern will concentrate efforts on social marketing and general outreach to gain advocates for the cause and promote campaigns. This work will be completed almost entirely online, although intern may be asked to meet with current or potential supporters. The Intern will be wholly responsible for planning and executing all efforts in concert with our board of directors. 

This internship will offer a substantial opportunity to learn grassroots organizing techniques, while applying knowledge learned in the intern’s home institution course work. The intern will work closely with the organization’s Marketing/Web team who has grown the organization from 7 members, to 40,000 in 3 years. No office space will be provided, but position will offer significant contact with our dynamic board of directors. 

Specific tasks may include but are not limited to: 

  • Develop and deploy promotional and marketing material to Californians. 
  • Plan and implement outreach strategies to gain supporters. 
  • Engage in social networking to cultivate viral attention to our work and platform via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and You Tube. 
  • Create engaging, persuasive content for emails, press releases, website and potentially blogs. 
  • Work with our online platform, Nation Builder (training available). 
  • Create marketing timelines, project plans and powerful marketing materials for current and new campaigns. 
  • Conduct due diligence and understand competitive efforts from similar non-profits. 
  • Create powerful and positive web-based marketing efforts.

The Summer Internship is restricted to people who are currently active, matriculating students in an accredited program who are preferably on summer break, and who are eligible to work in the US. 

All students must provide their own computer and work-space, housing and transportation. All students must be positive, professional self-starters, who are able to complete tasks given in a reasonable amount of time. 

Students must have excellent written, grammatical, and verbal skills, and be able to work in online platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, You Tube) with ease. Experience in grassroots organizing and non-profits a plus. Excellent skills in Word and Excel required. 

The ideal candidate will be extremely organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, friendly over the phone (or in iChat or video conference), as well as willing and able to learn new online platforms. 

Opportunity to participate in conference calls with statewide leaders of Education Policy Reform efforts will be available. Students should be available for the entire summer.
