San Francisco State’s Beta Chi chapter of Beta Alpha Psi awarded distinction of Gold Chapter
News + Events : San Francisco State’s Beta Chi chapter of Beta Alpha Psi awarded distinction of Gold Chapter
Beta Alpha Psi is an international student honor and service organization whose membership includes accounting majors.
Membership requires maintaining a superior GPA and participation in a variety of community service and professional activities throughout the academic year.
Beta Alpha Psi’s international board decided a few years ago to raise the bar by creating the Gold Chapter designation, posing a new challenge to chapters like Beta Chi that have consistently maintained the Superior Chapter status, previously the highest status achievable.
The Gold Chapter criteria is rigorous, and requires chapters to maintain Superior Chapter status in two of the most recent academic years, be active in regional and national meeting activities, and film a seven-minute video explaining why the chapter deserves such an honor.
With help from faculty co-advisor, Tina Caratan, the Beta Chi chapter rose to the challenge. After a long weekend of rehearsing, filming and editing, the film was submitted to the BAP Executive Office. The clip can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q03NA-8cnYs
The students’ efforts were rewarded as the Beta Chi chapter was identified as one of only nine chapters across the nation to be granted Gold Chapter status. KPMG LLP, the sponsoring firm, funds up to 15 chapters each year. For the 2012 challenge, 33 chapters applied. In 2014, Beta Chi will celebrate its fiftieth year as a chapter.
The Department of Accounting and College of Business would like to congratulate the Beta Chi chapter for a job well done!
