Dean Linda Oubré
Linda Oubré was appointed Dean of the SF State College of Business in July 2012. She brings a diverse business background having served as an executive leader in several corporate and startup organizations.
Dean Oubré’s vision is to find ways to connect the College’s unique mission of social justice, diversity, and innovation to the global business community. Current initiatives include the College of Business Enterprises or COBE. This initiative is part of an innovative platform to evolve deeper connections between businesses and other organizations with the College of Business. At its core, COBE is developing a pipeline of career-ready leaders for the Bay Area and the world. Synergies powered by COBE expand opportunities for executive education, consulting, ideation and business incubation in SF State’s downtown San Francisco campus.
The “Startup Junkie”
A self-described “start-up junkie,” Oubré has been involved in more than 30 new ventures including co-founding and serving as President and COO of BriteSmile, Inc. Oubré was responsible for the planning, launch and management of the company’s one-hour teeth whitening spas and affiliated dental offices. During her tenure from 1998 to 2002, BriteSmile grew to $50 million in sales and 130 employees.
Prior to BriteSmile, Oubre served as president of Tri Com Ventures where she specialized in new venture planning and start-ups. Her clients included BusinessWeek Online, Prodigy Online and the United Nations Business Development Project.
Before Tri Com Ventures, Oubré was general manager of new business development for the Los Angeles Times, director of operations for Walt Disney Publishing, and manager of planning for both the Times Mirror Company and Walt Disney’s Consumer Products and Retail Division. In these roles, she was responsible for startup planning and managing the implementation of several new ventures including TimesLink, Los Angeles Times Magazine, Disney Press, Hyperion Books, and Disney Computer Software. Oubré also worked as an analyst for Syncom Capital, a venture capital firm with investments in cable and broadcast television.
Lifelong Learning Acumen
Throughout her career, Dean Oubré has embraced business education. She was a visiting instructor in the entrepreneurship program at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and also was a guest instructor at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. Overseas, Oubré taught financial planning and business development at the University of Minsk in the Republic of Belarus.
Dean Oubré received her B.A. in economics,cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1980, and her MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1984.
