Stuart Appley, CIO, Shorenstein
Stuart Appley is the CIO for Shorenstein, a national real estate investment firm headquartered in San Francisco. He brings more than 25 years of experience to his role as CIO, where he has responsibility for the long term strategy, planning, design and management of the firm's information systems, applications, and computing infrastructure. Stuart is a frequent speaker, focusing his attention on the use of Cloud in the Enterprise, along with sharing best practices on IT Leadership. Prior to Shorenstein, Stuart was the CIO at Walden International, a global venture capital firm. Stuart is an alumnus of the SF State MBA program.
Mark Egan, CIO, VMware
Mark Egan leads VMware’s global information technology group. Under Mark’s leadership, VMware’s IT department is focused on the effective use of IT to bring improved agility and cost savings to the business. Mark brings more than 30 years of experience in information technology to VMware, most recently serving as partner of the StrataFusion Group, an executive level consultancy. Mark served as CIO at Symantec Corporation for six years during the company’s rapid growth from a consumer publisher with $600 million revenue to the market leader of security with $5 billion revenue.
Doug Harr, CIO, Splunk, Inc.
Doug Harr is CIO at Splunk, Inc. Doug and his team fulfill information technology needs using a combination of on premise, private and public cloud solutions with a heavy emphasis on software and infrastructure “as a service”. Doug is passionate about deploying IT solutions in this way, delivering advanced capabilities to his business customers, all highly extensible, and metered on a variable cost basis. Doug has been leading IT organizations for half of his career, at companies such as Ingres Corporation, Portal Software, and Hewlett Packard. The rest of the time, he has been in the IT consulting field focused on delivering enterprise business applications to clients such as Symantec, VMware, Activision, and other technology companies. Doug has a B.S. degree in Business from Cal Poly, SLO. He is engaged in the CISE CIO consortium, lectures at several local universities, and is treasurer for the CIO Scholarship Fund.
Mark Settle, CIO, BMC Software
Mark Settle joined BMC Software in June 2008. He has served as the CIO of four Fortune 300 companies: Corporate Express, Arrow Electronics, Visa International and Occidental Petroleum. Mark has worked in a variety of industries including consumer products, high tech distribution, financial services and oil & gas. Previously, he has held P&L responsibilities as the director of a systems integration business unit within Hughes Aircraft Company. Mark's formal training is in the geological sciences. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from MIT and a Ph.D. from Brown University.
